Consultant and Facilitator Development

Effectiveness Consultants offers two consultant training and development programs with several different perspectives:

Consultative Methods for Techsperts (CMT)

Our Consultative Methods Program was designed to specifically to provide technical experts, advisors and specialists with the skills necessary to establish and maintain effective co-operative and supportive relationships with the individuals they are intended to advise and counsel.

Consulting in organizational development

Our extended consultant training is developed for participants responsible for operating and supporting long term strategic change processes.

The program consists of two primary blocks of training, OCA (Organization Change Agent) and OCD (Organization Change and Development), both of which are 5 weeks in length spread over a 5-6 month period. OBS! Successful completion of the OCA program is a prerequisite to attending the OCD program.

The combined OCA-OCD program is accredited by ODI - Organization Development Institute. That means, amongst other things, that ODI is comparable to a master’s degree education in Organization Development. To date, we are the only non-academic institution in Europe fulfilling the high standards required for ODI accreditation.

Consultative Methods for Techsperts (CMT)

Our Consultative Methods Program was designed to specifically to provide technical experts, advisors and specialists with the skills necessary to establish and maintain effective co-operative and supportive relationships with the individuals they are intended to advise and counsel.

Program objectives:

The CMT program was designed to improve participants’ ability to:
  • identify and clarify the needs of their clients and/or client organisation.
  • proactively market their specialised knowledge, expertise, services and/or products.
  • create and maintain supportive relationships with their clients.
  • understand, appreciate and effectively manage client/user resistance in a positive, productive manner.
  • work together with clients/recipients in the formulation of solutions to problems that both parties perceive as important.
  • communicate their knowledge and expertise to others in a manner that those others can understand, accept and apply.
Methods:

The Consultative Methods Programme begins with one week of intensive training in basic interpersonal skills including giving and receiving feedback, conflict management, and managing group dynamics.

This is followed by a week of intensive training in basic consultative skills, including establishing and maintaining effective client/customer relationships, influencing strategies, managing change (including reducing and managing the resistance to change), and much more.

Both of the preceding weeks are conducted in-residence.

Our CMT program can be tailored to the specific needs of participants from the same organization.

Target group:
The OCA program is intended for individuals with current and anticipated responsibility for designing, implementing, managing and/or evaluating results-oriented change efforts at the individual, group and team levels within their organizations. This group includes mid- and senior level managers, teachers, expert consultants, process consultants, etc.

Objective:
To provide participants with the foundation skills and concepts essential to functioning effectively in the role of internal or external change agents at the individual, group and team levels.

Method:
The OCA program consists of five weeks of intensive experiential-base training facilitated over six months. Between blocks of instruction participants are expected to complete a series of practical exercises designed to enhance their abilities to apply the concepts and skills learned during their training.

Content:
The program is divided into sections OCA 1-3.

OCA-1 is a two week block of instruction that focuses on the consultant as a person and how the organization is affected by the individual in the consulting role, in leading groups and on consultant’s philosophy and methodology (week 1 in-residence).

OCA-2 is a one week block of instruction aimed at improving participants’ ability to select and apply basic consulting skills and concepts as part of a planned change process.

OCA-3 is a two week block of instruction aimed at improving participants’ ability to design and facilitate cost-effective, results-oriented change efforts at the individual, interpersonal and team level.

Between OCA-1 and OCA-2 the participants will apply theories presented during the program to their regular work responsibilities. Between OCA-2 and OCA-3 participants will design and implement an actual change effort under the guidance of a skilled facilitator.
