Development of work, project and management teams

Highly effective work, project and management team have several characteristics in common with highly effective sports teams:
  1. Everyone on the team is playing the same game.
  2. Everyone on the team knows what and where the goals are.
  3. The rules of the game are understood and followed by all team members.
  4. Each individual team member is competent to play his position.
  5. The team members, together, have the combined competencies necessary to play effectively.
  6. The team consists of exactly enough members to do the job it was created to do.
  7. Individual excellence is encouraged, but only if it is to the benefit of the whole team winning its matches.
  8. Feedback, both positive and negative, is direct and immediate.
