Organization assessment and diagnosis

A comprehensive assessment of an organization’s current strengths and weaknesses is an essential first step in the design and implementation of change activities.

Richard Zackrison and Thomas Larsson, together with Anders Wendelheim from CORE Consultants, have developed a practical, easy to use tool for conducting and analyzing the results of an organization assessment. The tool is called CAS (Core Assessment System).

The Core Assessment System focuses on six primary areas:
  1. Internal and external stakeholders' satisfaction with the organization's "output".
  2. External influences on the organization’s performance such as access to resources, legislation, expectations of owners and customers, etc.
  3. The concerns and/or expectation or individuals and/or groups within the organization such as their attitudes towards change, trust in the organization's management, concern for quality, etc.
  4. The organization's perceived focus, i.e., clarity of vision, values, goals, strategies, missions, responsibilities, etc
  5. Perceived functionality of the organization's formal structures, systems and processes, including information dissemination, technical support, resource allocation, etc
  6. Perceived functionality of leadership, interactions and communications within and between groups and functions, such as teamwork, leadership, decision making, trust, support and encouragement.

Information regarding the client organization’s current state within each of the above six areas enables us to assist the organization’s management in their efforts to focus key resources on the areas likely to have the greatest leverage for a positive development.
